Alert Fatigue
Alert fatigue is the desensitization that sets in when responders receive too many alerts — especially noisy or low-value ones — making them slower to react or more likely to miss the alerts that matter.
Alert fatigue happens when responders are flooded with notifications — many of them noisy, duplicated, or non-actionable — until the alerts blur together. The result is slower acknowledgment, missed signals, and burnout on the on-call rotation, which undermines the whole point of alerting.
Reducing it is about signal, not volume:
- Tune thresholds so alerts fire on real, actionable conditions.
- Group and deduplicate related alerts into a single notification.
- Route by ownership so alerts reach the people who can act.
