MTTA (Mean Time to Acknowledge)
MTTA is the average time between when an alert fires and when a responder acknowledges it. It measures how quickly a team notices and takes ownership of a problem.
Mean Time to Acknowledge (MTTA) tracks the gap between an alert firing and a human acknowledging it — the moment someone takes ownership and begins working the problem. A low MTTA means alerts reach the right person quickly and get picked up without delay; a high MTTA often points to noisy alerts, gaps in on-call coverage, or unclear ownership.
MTTA is a leading indicator: shortening it usually shortens overall resolution time too. It works best alongside MTTR, reliable on-call rotations, and escalation rules that catch unacknowledged alerts.
