MTTR (Mean Time to Resolve)

MTTR is the average time it takes to fully resolve an incident, from detection to restored service. It's a common measure of how effectively a team responds to and recovers from disruptions.

Mean Time to Resolve (MTTR) measures the average time from when an incident is detected to when service is fully restored. It captures the whole response — acknowledging, diagnosing, mitigating, and confirming recovery — so it reflects how well a team’s people, tooling, and runbooks work together under pressure.

Because “MTTR” is used loosely across the industry, define your window explicitly (for example, detection-to-resolution). Improving MTTR usually starts upstream: faster acknowledgment (MTTA), clearer ownership, and a consistent incident management process.
